Awards
Given by the Virginia Turfgrass Council at their 1998 conference.
This award recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the development of the Virginia Turfgrass Industry. Formally the “Silver Tray Award”. (R.D. “Dick” Cake was an early leader in the turfgrass industry in Virginia. He was keenly interested in improving turf quality.
He was a charter member of the VA. Turfgrass Council and was elected the first secretary / treasurer of the council, a position he retained until his death. He was also Secretary of the Tidewater Turfgrass Association, Virginia’s oldest turfgrass association.
In these leadership roles he invested much of his time and effort to the development of the VA. Turfgrass Council and richly deserves the honor of having the Council’s first award named after him.)
